Point Reyes, California, is an inspiring preserve of unspoiled natural beauty. Just north of San Francisco on the Pacific coast, you can find the treasures of McClure's Beach, Lighthouse Point, Drake's Beach and Bolinas. And nearby are Muir Beach and the giant redwoods of Muir Woods. In places like these the photographs seem to almost make themselves. A detail of the Golden Gate Bridge shows the powerful strength and refined elegance that make it a modern icon of the Bay Area.
The very different ambiance of New York City can also be moving. A stirring pre-9/11 view of the WTC is in stark contrast with the present day gritty reality of reconstruction at Ground Zero. One of my favorite buildings in NY, the Rose Planetarium, is an architectural masterpiece. From my studio on Riverside Drive the park and Hudson River are inspiring. The sunsets are a daily marvel but on the day after 9/11 there was an amazingly fine one. A row of ducks at the edge of the frozen Lake in Central Park ignored the brilliant Christo Gates festivities nearby.
Visits to Durham, NC, included the famed Duke Gardens that proved beautiful even in December without their lush summer flora.
Coming down the Colorado River near Moab a huge cliff painted with 'desert varnish', the blackening that takes thousands of years to create, seemed like a giant abstract mural. Over the top of the cliff is Arches National Park with its astonishing rock formations. Continuing south there are the magnificent buttes of Monument Valley against a bright blue sky gridded with white contrails. The modern canopy is a reminder of the stability of these ancient rocks.
These digital images were edited on my computer and archivally printed to be lightfast for 166+ years in frames, or 200+ years in dark storage. I use Somerset Velvet, a heavy, bright white watercolor paper, acid-free 100% cotton. In some cases I may use Epson Premium Luster Photo Paper. They are printed with Epson Ultrachrome inks on an Epson Pro 4000 printer and sprayed with PremierArt Print Shield for added protection from UV and water. Lightfast ratings by Wilhelm Imaging Research, the leading independent authority in this field.
Prints are signed and numbered in Limited Editions of 200 - a total of all sizes.
